Taking care of your money is a form of self-care. Neglect in this area can lead to stomach aches, poor sleep, worry, and other stress-related symptoms. As a licensed mental health professional, you did not enter the field for money, but it does not make you immune to money anxiety. In this workshop, learn tools that can help you address money anxiety for you and your clients.

Does the following sound familiar?

  • You are working with a client who is progressing on their goals. (Yay, you!) Then one day, they share that they have a financial crisis.

  • They can't sleep, they can't eat, they can't stop worrying. Now, their goals have shifted, which means you must be able to shift.

  • Or

  • Have you ever sat across from a client discussing their fabulous weekend getaway while you worry about how to collect their back co-pays because your bills are due?

  • These are all examples of financial stress, which refers to worry or anxiety about debt, expenses, and money.

  • The odds are that this form of stress is familiar to most of us. In the 2022 Stress in America survey by the American Psychological Association, 65% of the respondents reported that money was a significant stress in their lives.

  • These numbers are higher among women, low-income families, and people of color. How do we help clients navigate this stress while also managing our own financial anxiety?

  • Being dedicated to helping others, we can forget to provide care for ourselves. Learning to take care of money is a radical form of self-care. In this workshop, we will learn how to assist clients as well as ourselves in managing the stress related to money.

We will learn:

  • How taking care of money is self-care.

  • How to use narrative therapy techniques to understand our relationship with money and identify limiting money beliefs.

  • How to utilize a Cognitive Behavior Therapy Approach to review the impact of money beliefs.

  • How strengthening positive beliefs and challenging negative money beliefs reduce stressful thoughts.

  • Various techniques to manage stress.
